I was born and grew up in Brooklyn, New York
​
My education and career were entirely unrelated to the pursuit of creative photography. They focused on science, mathematics, computer science and finance.
​
I became seriously interested in photography in my teens, starting out with Zeiss Ikon and Mentorette (DLR), the fourth and fifth film cameras in the photo above. The first SLR I ever used was my father's Asahi Pentax Spotmatic, the sixth camera in the photo above. I bought my first SLR, a Nikkormat, shortly after graduating from college. I sold it in order to buy the Nikon F2 (#7 above), which I used until 2001, when I bought my first digital camera. My primary camera is currently a Nikon D850 DSLR (not shown). I have used almost all of the cameras in the photo above. ​
